The Federation of Bullfighting Clubs of Bous al Carrer of the Valencian Community has proposed as “most desirable option” the postponement of the festivities scheduled for April, May and June (for the moment) to the months of October, November and December to avoid a collapse of the sector in the months of July, August and September.
As reported by this federation, it is about avoiding by all means the definitive suspension of shows that generate more than 3,000 jobs and an annual economic movement of 300 million euros (0.08% of Valencian GDP), according to the latest report on the economic impact of the sector presented last September by the University of Valencia.
“Unlike other festive and cultural groups, the bullfighting is not centralized in a specific month, since clubs and Town Halls are organized to be able to perform during the 365 days of the year the more than 9,700 bullfighting events in various modalities, “the president of the Federation of Peñas explains in statements to Efe, Vicent Nogueroles.
With these arguments and with the responsibility acquired in recent years, we set ourselves the general objective of the postponement. Contacts with the sector have been continuous in last weeks and each case is analyzed in detail looking for the best solution. The least desired option, but at the same time the most real and effective will be to move the festivities of April, May and June to the last quarter of the year, “he adds.
This measure is about minimize losses in all companies linked to the sector: ranchers, feedlots, health services, architects, fitters, managers, transporters or the media, among others.
However, “there is another concern”, details Nogueroles: “The more than 80 autochthonous herds, together with the around 20 feedlots that together add more than 15,000 head of wild cattle in our land. The economy of 300 families depends on these farms, which account for 28.3% of the aforementioned economic impact. ”
«The source of income for this sector is solely and exclusively the Bous al Carrer celebrations and very hard months for them. Supporters and organizers will be at the foot of the canyon and we will try by our means to alleviate any type of negative situation, but the gravity of their situation requires much more, “he adds.
In his opinion, «the Ministries of Culture and Agriculture, the Generalitat as well as the Provincial Councils, cannot forget a cultural, festive and local activity with all that it entails. We have been, are and will be a serious and rigorous collective; generous, collaborative and we have always reached out to any action for the benefit of our land and country. We will face this situation and we will continue to organize all the festivities that are possible, “concludes Nogueroles, who offers the collaboration of the” bullfighting collective for any type of action necessary in the fight against the coronavirus. “
