A white town in Warsaw suspended until Sunday evening due to a tragic event

In connection with the tragedy that happened on Saturday, we decided to suspend the activities of the white town until Sunday evening – the protest and strike committee of health care workers informed on Saturday evening.

On Saturday morning, during a press conference of the protest and strike committee in Warsaw, in the white town at al. Ujazdowskie, a tragic event happened. Preliminary findings by the police indicate that self-mutilation occurred, and the man who did it – died.

Protesters suspend the activities of the white town

Initially, the protest and strike committee announced in a statement that the man had been given immediate aid and had been hospitalized, and due to the ensuing situation, it was decided to abandon the Saturday events. Sub-commissioner Rafał Retmaniak from the press office of the Warsaw Police Headquarters stated that the man with facial injuries was taken to the hospital, where he died.

– A tragedy happened in the town today that touched all of us – participants, a tragedy that also touched many people from outside the town. Therefore, we have decided to suspend the activities of the white town until tomorrow in the same form that we have conducted so far, and in the town we announce a time of silence, reflection and mourning – Piotr Pisula from the Resident Alliance told journalists on Saturday evening. He added that any further information would be provided on Sunday night.

“Białe Miasteczko 2.0” has been operating since September 11, after a demonstration of health care workers near the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The action refers to the “white town” of nurses from 2007.
