Distance learning has contributed to the rapid acquisition of digital skills over the past year, but has also revealed a number of shortcomings.
A survey of more than 700 school principals found that the vast majority indicated that this time had given them practical practical skills in digital skills. 78% though with the remark that you need the right balance so that the whole day is not just at the computer. “Internet connection is not available in all places of Latvia, and some schools, about 10%, could not provide it. Not because I don’t want to, but because there is no internet connection of adequate quality in the populated area, ”says Rolands Ozols, Director of the Quality Assessment Department of the State Education Quality Service.
“As you can imagine, school closures affect all students, but especially those from lower social backgrounds or low-income families,” said Giovanni Maria Semiraro, an analyst at the OECD Department for Education and Skills.
An international study also shows that teachers in Latvia have a large workload, but also one of the lowest salaries.
