Design issues would have forced Apple to revert to a more traditional design to limit breakage.
Remember: a month ago there were many rumors that Apple Watch Series 7 would adopt a whole new design. A first in six years, since Apple has simply never changed the look of its smartwatch. The new design would have been less round at the edges, which would have become quite flat. A design that immediately seduced, and that many hoped to discover this Tuesday during the keynote.
The rumor was originally started by leakers Jon Prosser and Ian Zelbo. To back up their words, they even published a concept for this new Watch, which matched exactly what they said. The leakers seemed so sure of themselves that there was no longer any doubt: the Apple Watch Series 7 would adopt this new, flatter look! The presentation of the new Apple watch on Tuesday must have made many people disappointed. Despite an ever-larger screen, the usual design of the Apple Watch remains unchanged. Immediately, hate tweets were unleashed against Jon Prosser and his sidekick. So much so that they had to apologize on Twitter for their comments.
Not sure what to say but that Apple Watch with a square design exists. I saw multiple images, and CADs, Gurman confirmed it, and 91mobiles shared very similar CADs. Honestly very confused…

But what if, in the end, the two men were not wrong? What if an Apple Watch with a less plump and more angular design had really existed? In any case, this is the rumor that has been swelling for several days on social networks. Jon Prosser and Ian Zelbo, but also Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) and Ming-Chi Kuo claim to have seen the new Watch as well as 3D renderings of it. We know, Apple has known serious problems in its production line. One of the most tangible evidence is that all the products presented on Tuesday had a specific release date, except the Apple Watch, which had to settle for a wave “later this fall”. A delay that we attributed to this new design, which is complex to manage for engineers in the factories.
The design change was not the only big novelty of this Apple Watch Series 7. A faster processor should be part of the game, just like a more advanced Ultra Wideband technology, but it is ultimately nothing! Rather strange fact, Apple did not reveal the technical specifications of the Series 7, while they are still available directly after the keynote.
On its website, Apple mainly highlights the software features of the new Watch, and not the new hardware. Only the largest surface of the screen and its resistance are emphasized. Further proof that Apple had to review its plans at the last moment and finally only offer an Apple Watch “6S”.
Never mind, it’s a safe bet that Apple has learned the lessons for next year. Jon Prosser is already talking about a design change for the Series 8, the 2022 model. It is obviously too early to project that far. One thing is nevertheless certain: sooner or later Apple intends to revisit its smartwatch.
