Andersson’s candidacy was approved by parliament (Riksdag), in which the majority of parliamentarians (175 out of 349) either supported it or abstained. It was enough for the prime minister to receive a vote of confidence.
Andersson was to lead a minority government which, in addition to its party – the Workers’ Party – Social Democrats, also included the Greens. Formally, she was to take the position of prime minister after Friday’s meeting with King Charles XVI Gustav.
Earlier, the test for the newly formed government was the adoption of the budget act. It turned out that thanks to the Center Party’s abstention, the budget was passed by the Moderate Coalition Party, Christian Democrats and Swedish Democrats.
As a result, the Green Party forming the government decided to leave the coalition, and on Wednesday afternoon Andersson resigned. So far, it is not known who will receive the mission to form the new government.
