Severe setback: BC Uzwil loses two top games at the start of the second half of the season and has to give up the lead in the table
At the start of the second half of the NLA season, Badminton Club Uzwil lost both top games against Argovia and Tafers 3:5. This has a bad effect on the table. The team slipped from the top of the table to third place.
This is a bitter pill for the reigning NLA Swiss champion. During the entire preliminary round, Badminton Club (BC) Uzwil never had to admit defeat – and now it has two defeats at the start of the second half: against Argovia and Tafers. It even has a historical character. It has been more than six years since Uzwil last lost two NLA games in a row.
It was staff absences that severely weakened the team. Especially among the men, several regulars were missing. Kim Bruun (DEN) is currently in international competitions in Asia. Robin Tabeling (NED) tested positive for Corona a few days ago. And Julien Scheiwiller (SUI) was unavailable against Argovia because of a school exam. This burden ultimately weighed too heavily and shows that it is difficult to survive in the men’s games without foreign reinforcements.
Tafers and Argovia new at the top of the table
The women saw the only ray of hope. The Uzwil doubles with Milena Schnider and Cheryl Sein won both games. But that was’s then already. While the individual results against Argovia were relatively clear, the games against Tafers were more balanced. In the end, however, the Uzwilers failed to defend their lead in the standings. Instead, they were overtaken by the two pursuers. Tafers and Argovia are now joint leaders with 26 points, followed by Uzwil with 25 points. The next NLA rounds are scheduled for February 11 (away game in St.Gallen) and February 13 (home game against La Chaux-de-Fonds). (sentence)
