The police report to AFP news agency that “teams are currently on their way to examine the body”. It was found in a national park in western Wyoming, searching for Gabrielle Petito.
The FBI, which was involved in the search, has announced in a press conference that it is most likely the body of the missing woman. “While this is not 100 percent certain, similarities have been found,” a spokesperson said. “Further forensic investigation is underway.”
The remarkable missing person case is getting a lot of attention in the United States. Gabrielle, also known as Gabby, had left for a tour of the United States with her partner Brian in July.
On September 1, Brian Laundrie (23) returned – without his partner Gabby. Her family then reported her missing to the police. This weekend, relatives of Laundrie announced that they had not seen him since last Tuesday. He too seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.
‘Multiple missing persons case’
Police said in a statement this weekend they were “frustrated” by the turn of events. The annoyance seems to have arisen mainly because the family of Laundrie only recently wanted to contact the police.
“We are not currently investigating a crime,” the police said, “but into a multiple missing person case.”
Friends of Gabrielle Petito gathered at the Laundrie home this weekend, shouting, “Where’s Gabby?” Her family has said through a lawyer that they do not believe that Brian Laundrie is actually missing. “He’s just hiding.”
America is meanwhile under the spell of the missing persons case, correspondent Michiel Vos told RTL Boulevard this weekend:
