Coronavirus, infection rate | New Norwegian infection record, but far fewer hospitalized than predicted

4575 registered infections in the last 24 hours means that 6095 infections have been registered in the last two days – a clear new record for a two-day period.

In the last 24 hours, 4,575 corona infections have been registered in Norway. This is by far the highest number so far, but the explanation probably lies in low registration the day before.

The number of 4,575 is 2,097 higher than on the same day last week.

According to VG, operational problems at the Norwegian Health Network have led to an unusually low number of cases being registered on 23 November, and a recovery was therefore expected for 24 November.

In the last seven days, an average of 2,297 corona infections have been registered per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 1,859, so the trend is rising sharply.

The previous peak was on 16 November and was 2,552 corona-infected.

Far fewer corona inpatients than expected

The number of corona patients admitted to Norwegian hospitals is down to almost half of what the estimate was a couple of weeks ago. NIPH is cautiously optimistic.

On Wednesday, 232 corona patients were hospitalized, three fewer than the day before.

According to Aftenposten, the estimate two weeks ago was that the hospitals would have around 478 corona patients admitted on 21 November. Avisa writes that an important explanation for the development is that the growth in infection has stopped among the very oldest.

Department director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) says that the number of hospitalizations and infections does not seem to be rising as sharply as it did.

– It is a cautious optimism, but it is too early to conclude whether this is a lasting trend, she says.

59 of the patients are in the intensive care unit, and among them 35 are on a respirator. There are just as many on intensive care and one more on a respirator compared with the day before, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s overview.

At midnight on Thursday night, 8.3 million corona tests had been performed in this country since February last year. A total of 251,397 people tested positive.

4.2 million have received at least one dose

To date, 4,229,770 people have received the first dose of the coronary vaccine, 3,796,698 people have received the second and 401,398 have received the third dose.

A total of 1,049 corona-infected people have died in Norway since March 2020, preliminary figures show. Whether patients have died of or with covid-19 is not always possible to establish.

59.4 percent of all deaths have reached the age of 80. In the age group under 50, 23 deaths have been reported in Norway.
