EDP Renováveis joint venture wins wind project in Scotland – Energia

Ocean Winds, a joint venture owned by EDP Renováveis and Engie for offshore projects, has won the exclusive rights to develop a wind farm of around 1 GW in Caledonia, Scotland.

The announcement was made this Monday by the subsidiary of the EDP group, in a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

The 440 square kilometers of maritime area allocated to Ocean Winds are located next to the existing offshore projects of Moray East (950 MW) and Moray West (900 MW), allowing it to “leverage experience and synergies in the development, construction and operation of this new project, which will also explore the renewable hydrogen component”, says the company. EDP Renováveis also highlights that this latest achievement positions Ocean Winds as “the Scottish offshore market leader”, as it actively contributes “with 2.9 GW to the United Kingdom’s objective of [atingir uma capacidade instalada offshore de] 40 GW by 2030″.

Thus, with today’s announcement, “EDP Renováveis increases its growth options in offshore wind in an attractive market, thus increasing and diversifying the company’s long-term profitable growth options, maintaining at the same time, a balanced risk profile“, he underlines.
