Heavy rains fell in the Westhoek region in West Flanders on Sunday. Floods were recorded in several places including Gistel. Several streams overflowed and streets were flooded.
Firefighters in the Westhoek area have been called 37 times for flooding mainly in Alveringem, Lo-Rening and Popering. “Most of the interventions concerned flooded streets because ditches could no longer absorb the large amount of rainwater.“said the fire department.”Sandbags were also placed here and there to protect the houses from rising waters.“Many cellars and streets were also flooded in the Gistel region.
While there is a nice carpet of snow in the Ardennes, they have to deal with abundant precipitation in the west of the country. Streets in the west corner in particular are flooded.
