How to use Hyper-V in Windows 11

Windows 11 comes with support for Hyper-V, a proprietary technology that helps the system create and manage virtual machines within it.

Microsoft introduced Hyper-V last year for Windows 10 devices, so Windows 11 got the tech, too.

You can only use Hyper-V with Windows 11 Pro systems as the feature is not available on Windows 11 Home systems.

What is Hyper-V in Windows 11?

This feature first appeared in Windows server systems, and this feature allows virtual machines installed in Windows to run separately in a completely separate environment, in order to protect the platform from damage and experiences that occur inside virtual machines.

You can install more than one virtual machine using Hyper-V technology on Windows 11 systems, but your machine must be suitable to run more than one virtual machine together on the system.

You need a high-tech central processor to be able to use it on your device, as well as at least 2GB of memory.

You can check whether your device supports this technology or not by clicking the right mouse button on the desktop, and then going to the task manager.

Next, click on the Performance tab, look for the state of virtualization, and if you find that it is active, then your device is able to work.

If the device is unable to work, you need to check your computer specifications and motherboard specifications to make sure they are supported.

Enabling Hyper-V Technology in Windows 11

There is more than one way to enable Hyper-V technology in Windows 11, but the best way to enable this technology is through the PowerShell interface.

You can activate it by following these steps

  • Go to the search menu in the start bar, then search for Powershell.
  • Next, launch the interface and give it administrator privileges
  • Then type the following command

DISM / Online / Feature Enabled / Kull / Feature Name Microsoft-Hyper-V

And when it’s ready to go, you’ll find that the technology has been activated, and you can restart the device to make sure it’s working properly.

Install and use the virtual machine

The virtual machine must be installed, configured, and then installed the operating system you wish to use.

You can do this by going to the Hyper-V manager app by searching for it in the Start menu, and when you get there you can start setting up the specs.

You want to click Create new virtual machine through the functionality menu at the top of the app, and then start configuring your device.

And you will find the first option is the hardware generation, where the technology provides two generations for use, and you can use the first generation for old or multiple systems, and the second generation is suitable for newer systems. Which support 64-bit technology and require higher hardware specifications.

Then you want to determine how much RAM the virtual machine can access from the available memory on your machine.

The higher the amount of RAM, the faster and more user-friendly the default operating system will be. But you should not make the default system RAM take up too much of your device’s memory, so that the platform does not become slow.

And it can make the memory of the virtual machine volatile automatically, since the system takes the memory it needs to perform various operations.

Then you need to connect the hard disk of your virtual machine, and you can specify the location and space of the virtual hard disk.

This means choosing where to store your virtual hard drive files on your primary hard drive.

Then you will find a set of additional options to improve the performance of the virtual machine, such as the power of the processor intended for it and the type of Internet connection.

When you have finished setting up your virtual machine, you must launch and install the operating system you want to use it with.

You can do this through the functions menu in the Virtual Device Manager app, and of course you need an external disk to install the system.
