IMF assessed the losses of Ukraine after the launch of “Nord Stream-2”

Over the past five years, the country has received an average of about $ 2.5 billion from the transportation of blue fuel. After the gas pipeline is launched, this amount may be reduced by almost half.

The International Monetary Fund has estimated Ukraine’s losses from the future launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline at $ 1.2 billion a year. This is stated in reportprepared as part of the revision of the cooperation program on November 24.

According to the Fund, over the past 5 years, the state received an average of more than $ 2.5 billion a year for the transit of Russian gas through its pipelines, but this year the profit from this will decrease by 40%.

“After the commissioning of Nord Stream 2, the volume of gas passing through Ukraine may further decrease (…) It is expected that this will lead to a decrease in Ukraine’s gas transit revenues by about USD 1.2 billion per year,” – said the IMF.

The representatives of the Fund also recalled that the current contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom expires in 2024.

As a reminder, the Russian company Gazprom announced on September 10 completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline… In turn, the German Federal Network Agency warned the operator of the project Nord Stream 2 AG on punishment in case of starting gas injection into the pipeline before the completion of certification. In this process Ukraine will also participate.
