Karen-Marie Ellefsen – – Worst time

VEITVET IN OSLO (Dagbladet): – I miss my job. I admit it, says the legend from NRK-sporten, Karen-Marie Ellefsen, to Dagbladet.

– I think it is very strange not to work. But as long as I can be healthy – and not get corona or other filth – I can be happy, she points out.

Last autumn, there was an inexorable end in NRK. Ellefsen was the last of the “big ones” to join the state channel. She was among the stars who appeared in Sportsrevyen in the 70s and 80s.

– The corona came at the worst time. I’ve said I should not complain. But I can not travel anywhere, abroad and warmer regions.

– Do you not feel that it loosens up a bit, now that most people have been vaccinated?

– Yes, but it does not help. I do not feel comfortable going abroad, even though I am fully vaccinated. There are people who get infected and sick anyway. It’s far inside.

The 71-year-old still has an effortless relationship with the spotlight. And in an ideal world, she should have worked. But the rules do not allow this for people over 70 years.

So what do the days look like for the pensioner who wore the TV lights for over 40 years?

– There will be housework, cooking and cleaning. I knit a little and watch drama series.

This summer she had a role as riddle master in “Prisoners at the fort”. The program will be shown on TV3 and Viaplay this autumn.

– It was OK. There was much stricter infection control in France than here. The recording was something completely different than what I have been used to on TV. But it was fun. It was a nice tone and professional people. I’m glad I was not a participant when I saw what they were exposed to. It was tough stuff, says Ellefsen, who does not want to reveal too much.

– I was asked to be a participant in “Prisoners at the fort” many years ago. Then I said “no”, because I thought it seemed scary.

Ironically, bowling from Veitvet was the first Sportsrevyen feature she made in 1977. Monday night she was back and had no other goal than to hit the occasional cone.

The winner of the celebrity competition was Ørnulf Høyer who runs several fashion stores with the same surname. In the next places followed stand-up comedian Rasmus Wold and fencer Bartosz Piasecki.

Ellefsen is passionate about athletics, and in recent years she has been interviewing on the plain in jumping.

– What was it like to watch this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo on TV, for the first time in over 40 years?

– I have been to all the Summer Olympics since 1980, so it was a bit awkward. It was also special because the championship was supposed to be held in 2020, but was postponed for a year. Then I would have been there, she points out.

– But I got all the Norwegian highlights with me.

– What do you think about NRK losing the winter sport to NENT Group from this season?

– That’s sad. That’s life. It is the money that rules. There are limits to how much NRK and TV 2 can spend on sports. Other programs must be made as well, she says.

– But I think NRK has done better than state broadcasters in other countries. They still have athletics. And they have shared the World Cup with TV 2.
