This allows “the entire surgical team (anesthetists, neurophysiologists, nurses …) to better follow the rhythm of the surgery, to be more involved and to work more in coordination.”

In turn, it has an endoscope that can be used in the same surgery and is also connected to the 4K screen. The endoscope, adds this surgeon, makes it possible, for example, to access the corners and thus eliminate blind spots in the approaches to a brain tumor. «In this type of surgery there was previously the possibility of use an endoscope, another device with its wheels, tower and screen. But – Díez Valle admits – a lot of time is wasted, it is impractical and impairs the pace of the intervention».

On the other hand, the Kinevo 900 device avoids this problem: «It is all in the same machine, it is a matter of pressing a button, even you can work with both at the same time, increasing security».

In his opinion, it facilitates the evolution towards minimally invasive surgery, but with greater efficiency.

Another advantage of this device is the integration of fluorescence filters available in neurosurgery to distinguish a vascular pathology from a tumor, for example. «It has the types of more advanced neurosurgical fluorescence on the market and with the possibility of making flow measurements for tumors and vascular surgery, something that was not unthinkable until now, since we did not have all these capabilities in the same equipment ”, says the doctor.

The Kinevo 900 microscope also has the particularity of being mounted on a robotic arm under the control of the surgeon using a joystick. This arm allows the surgeon to memorize different positions of the microscope to which he can return at any time.

It also makes it possible to carry out highly controlled micro-movements without blurring the image. This is, in the words of the neurosurgeon of Dr. Díez Valle’s team, Dr. Sonia Tejada, very relevant because when «you are focusing on an area, sometimes you need to move the microscope, either because more distance is required or because you need to enter from another angle to continue working in the same area. With Kinevo 900 – Dr. Tejada emphasizes – you can keep the focus in one place and pivot the microscope without losing the orientation in the field and the work focus ».

Dr. Sonia Tejada, specialist in child neurosurgery, underscores the benefits of this technology in pediatric patients. “How much less invasive the intervention, the better. Everything that the microscope contributes to adults is multiplied in children because it is an even more delicate surgery, ”explains the doctor.
