List of Indonesian Cities that Already Have a 5G Network, Is Your City Already?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The year 2021 marks Indonesia’s entry into the 5G era. However, not all cities can feel the fast network, so far there are only 9 cities.

The following is a list of 9 cities that have received 5G commercial services:

  1. Jabodetabek
  2. Bandung
  3. Batam
  4. Balikpapan
  5. Makassar
  6. Surakarta
  7. Surabaya
  8. Denpasar
  9. Medan

There are only three operators who already have a proper operation permit from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. This starts with Telkomsel, which debuted in May 2021.

Meanwhile, Indosat is also following up to get the same permit. Kominfo gave the permit last June. Finally, XL Axiata also received a similar permit in August.

In the regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology No. 2 of 2021, it is actually seen that there are plans for 5G development in Indonesia. In addition to cities on the island of Java, it is hoped that the network can also be present outside the region.

For example, at the location of super priority tourist destinations, namely Labuan Bajo (NTT), Mandalika (NTB), Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Likupang (North Sulawesi), and Borobudur (Central Java).

It is planned that all six provincial capitals in Java and five tourist destinations will be able to access the 5G network by 2023.

Next is a manufacturing industry location that will get a 5G network. Finally, the new national capital is planned to be able to access 5G.

Both manufacturing sites and new nation’s capitals will be able to get 5G networks in 2024.

“If there is no policy change from the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the timeline for the IKN relocation plan, targeted by 2024, IKN has 100% covered fiber optic networks and 4G mobile cellular services, and is ready to implement 5G technology,” explained Kominfo.
