Messi refuses to celebrate PSG vs Lyon win

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Lionel Messi Don’t celebrate goals and victories PSG over Lyon with supporters after the French League match at the Parc Des Princes, Monday (20/9) early morning WIB.

Messi was in the spotlight because he showed a disappointed face when he was pulled out by PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine was replaced by Achraf Hakimi in the 1-1 draw before PSG won through Mauro Icardi’s goal in injury time.

Messi refused a handshake with Pochettino and chose to sit directly next to Leandro Paredes on the PSG bench. The hosts then sealed a 2-1 victory through Mauro Icardi’s goal when injury time.

After the match, the PSG players celebrated the victory over Lyon with the fans who were present at the Parc Des Princes Stadium. But there is no figure of Messi in the celebration of the victory.

Quoted from Clarin, Messi chose to go straight into the team locker room and not participate in celebrating the victory with the fans.

“Obviously Messi doesn’t like to leave the pitch [diganti] and what he did after the game shows that. He doesn’t celebrate the winning goal [Icardi] or with his teammates,” Clarin wrote.

“Messi immediately returned to the team dressing room with a disappointed gesture, like the one he showed when he was substituted,” continued Clarin.

Messi is not a player who likes to be pulled out. In a previous interview, La Pulga preferred to come in to replace another player rather than be replaced and leave the field.

The last time Messi was substituted by another player was when Barcelona beat Granada in the Spanish League, January 2021. But by then Messi had already scored two goals and coach Ronald Koeman gave him a break.
