MTV presents the Europe Music Awards in Dusseldorf

dpa Dusseldorf. After ten years, MTV’s Europe Music Awards are being presented again in Germany and for the first time in North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf was awarded the contract.

The music channel MTV will present the Europe Music Awards (EMA) this year in Düsseldorf. The presentation of the EMA trophies will be broadcast from the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf on November 13, MTV and D.live announced on Tuesday.

“After ten years, one of the biggest global music events is returning to Germany,” said Paramount manager Till Weidemüller. At the same time, 25 years of MTV Germany are being celebrated. Music fans in more than 170 countries will be able to follow the event live on television.

“It’s just great for the city to have many outstanding artists here and to be able to present them to an audience of billions,” said Mayor Stephan Keller (CDU). He will clear his calendar for it.

After a pandemic-related virtual party in 2020, the awards were presented in Hungary’s capital Budapest last year, previously Lisbon, Rome and Milan were host cities.

The MTV Europe Music Awards have been presented annually since 1994. Fans can vote for their favorites online. The organizers have not yet revealed which stars will appear in November. It is also unclear how many viewers can watch live in the dome. This depends on the size of the stage structure.

“The longing for encounters, for music and culture, has never been as great and meaningful as it is today. We had to hole up for two years. Now it’s time to come out again. Live is back!” said Michael Brill from D.live. Previous EMAs in Germany took place in Berlin (1994 & 2009), Frankfurt (2001 & 2012) and Munich (2007).
