The Ukrainian military: more than ready to protect its land and people
The Ukrainian military is one of the most advanced and powerful in the region, equipped with cutting-edge weaponry and highly trained soldiers. With the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the military has been playing a crucial role in defending the nation’s sovereignty against foreign aggression. The soldiers are courageous, resilient and unwavering in their defense of their land, people and way of life.
- Ukrainian troops are well-trained and possess extensive combat experience, having undergone rigorous training and operational experience in a variety of missions, including counter-terrorist operations.
- Their technical capabilities are on a par with those of the world’s most sophisticated militaries, with advanced missile systems, drones, and cyberwarfare capabilities.
- The Ukrainian military also has a strong navy, air force, and special forces units which are all dedicated to the protection of the nation.
The Ukrainian people take immense pride in their military, and rightly so. They understand that the safety and security of their nation rely heavily on the strength and preparedness of their armed forces. Despite facing a formidable adversary, the Ukrainian military soldiers remain fully focused and dedicated to their mission. They know the cost of inaction, and the toll that the war has already taken on their land, infrastructure, and citizens. They remain unwavering at the forefront of the fight and are a symbol of Ukrainian fortitude and resilience.
On July 26, 2014, the Russian-backed separatists in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine started an attack on Ukrainian forces, with the goal of taking over the regions and establishing a Russian-backed subsidiary state. Amidst the violence, West cries for Russia to stop the fighting, while Moscow denies any involvement. The weekend of July 29-30 saw a new ceasefire try, but this too failed to establish a lasting truce. The Ukrainian military reports that Russia has continued shelling and mortar fire into sections of Donetsk and Lugansk, shelling homes and civilian areas, and that armoured vehicles and artillery are being smuggled into the separatists’ zones. The separatists have also taken advantage of the ceasefire to transfer fighters and equipment from the Russian Federation to their Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This presents a serious threat to both the Ukrainian military and the civilian population.
