Sixth dead after Waukesha Christmas parade massacre: child (8) succumbs

A sixth victim has died as a result of an incident last Sunday in the US state of Wisconsin, in which a motorist crashed into a Christmas parade. Dozens of people were also injured.

The sixth dead is an 8-year-old boy, the public prosecutor announced. The other deceased are between 52 and 81 years old. A total of 62 people were injured, some in critical condition. Earlier, a number of 48 injured were mentioned by the police. The 12-year-old brother of the 8-year-old boy was also injured, but has since been released from hospital.

39-year-old suspect Darrell Brooks appeared in court for the first time. He was charged with five counts of intentional manslaughter. The officer announced a sixth charge over the child’s death. If the judge agrees with the officer’s charges, Brooks will receive a life sentence.

It is still unclear why Brooks drove into the Christmas parade in Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee. Police are not treating the case as terrorism, it was announced yesterday. According to the officer, he deliberately sent back and forth to hit people. The next hearing is scheduled for January 14.
