HONIARA Prime Minister (PM) Solomon Islands , Manasseh Sogavare, refused to resign after riots broke out in the Pacific island nation this week. He also condemned the actions of some unknown “instigators” of the riots that hit the country’s capital.

Sogavare said the unrest in the country was orchestrated by a small group of people with the aim of forcing him to resign. He also vowed not to give up on this endeavor.

“It is very clear that the recent events were well planned and orchestrated to remove me as prime minister for unfounded reasons,” he said.

“I want to show the nation that the government is fully intentional and nothing will move us. We must and will never succumb to the evil intentions of some people,” he said. Sputnik, Sunday (11/28/2021).

Sogavare further assured that the arrests of those responsible for spreading false information to incite violence had been made. He promised more arrests to take place once investigations into the origins of the riots were completed.

“We must and will never succumb to the evil intentions of a few. We must fight bullying, bullying and violence. We owe this to our children and the overwhelming majority of our people who cannot defend themselves,” he said.

Protesters accuse the Solomon Islands government of corruption and of being effectively controlled by foreign interests, particularly by China.
