The number of followers of the Emmy Awards this year has increased compared to the historical low last year, as it rose to 7.4 million viewers who watched the event on television, but it is still low.
Although the number of permitted attendance was limited by health measures, the return of the stars to the red carpet allowed an improvement in the performance of this tournament compared to last year’s version, which was held entirely in virtual format, and the number of followers of the concert on television increased by 16% compared to the low level recorded in 2020, according to CBS data.
“All in all, it was a great evening for television and an excellent platform to launch a new season,” a statement from the broadcaster said.
However, the number of viewers on Sunday evening remains the third worst performance in the history of the concert, which attracted more than ten million television viewers in 2018.
The majority of the 73rd Emmy Awards went to The Crown and Ted Lasso, cementing the dominance of on-demand video platforms Netflix and Apple TV+ in the series industry.
The only award given to a major American television channel was for “NBC” for the prolific “Saturday Night Live” program, while “CBS” returned with nostalgia.
The Hollywood Reporter, which specializes in this regard, considered that the situation of “CBS” is similar to “who broadcasts his burial ceremony,” noting that cable television transmitted the torch to the streaming broadcast.
