VIVA – Unfortunately the fate of Earth’s Moon, because it has become a ‘punching bag’ for the inner Solar System. New research suggests that the Moon may have been pounded while it was still a warm, soft little baby planetoid.
Without an atmosphere to protect it, the Moon would probably receive many attacks from asteroids and other celestial bodies over thousands of years, as evidenced by the many craters on its surface.
A new study from Australia’s Curtin University suggests several primordial impacts, which may be responsible for shaping some of the moon’s larger features. CNET, Friday, September 17, 2021.
