Video card prices have increased by an average of 10 percent since July – Computer – News

The prices of video cards, which appeared to have started a decline at the beginning of this summer, have risen again by an average of 10 percent in the past two months. This is evident from data from Tweakers’ Pricewatch. AMD Radeon RX 6800 rose the fastest, with 36 percent.

In July made we last took stock in the video card market. At the time, we wrote that prices fell as more and more shipments came in at stores, even though retail prices were not yet close to the recommended retail prices communicated by AMD and Nvidia.

Since then, the prices of most video cards have stabilized or even increased slightly. In the green camp, especially the RTX 3090 (23 percent) and the RTX 3070 Ti (22 percent) became more expensive. The RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti, on the other hand, became slightly cheaper. Of the AMD cards, the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT have increased in price the most, at 36 and 24 percent respectively.

Two of the cards that came up in our most recent price-performance review, the RTX 3070 Ti and the RX 6800 XT, are the worst victims. A price correction was obvious for the RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti, because they cost exactly the same in July, despite the difference in performance. However, that correction did not come about by making the RTX 3070 cheaper, but by making the RTX 3070 Ti more expensive. With the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT, the poor availability plays a role; At the time of writing, only one card of both GPUs is in stock in the Pricewatch.

Number of models in stock per GPU
RX 6600 XT RX 6700 XT RX 6800 (XT) RX 6900 XT RTX 3060 (Ti) RTX 3070 (Ti) RTX 3080 (Ti) RTX 3090
9 11 1 (1) 13 22 (21) 16 (7) 15 (22) 13

Two months ago, the RX 6600 XT was not yet available, so we have entered the price on the day after introduction in the table. Back then, that card cost 499 euros, now you pay at least 569 euros. This makes it slightly cheaper than the RTX 3060 from Nvidia, which is now for sale from 599 euros.

Another way to get a video card lately is the drops of AMD’s and Nvidia’s reference models. AMD introduced a queuing system some time ago, which has made it more difficult to get a card at the weekly sale. Tips to get a card are shared in the AMD delivery times topic. Those interested in an Nvidia Founders Edition should contact a German store for Dutch people and a French store for Belgians. Some have had success with that, as it turns out Nvidia delivery times topic.

In the Pricewatch you can easy search for an off-the-shelf video card by dragging the ‘Maximum delivery time’ filter to 24 hours.
