German carmaker Volkswagen has released official information and photos of the new Lamando L. The model is intended exclusively for the Chinese market, where these vehicles are still very popular.
Regardless of the angle from which you look at it, the new Lamando L looks a lot like Arteon. No wonder as long as the two models share the same MQB architecture. The difference is made by the size, the new sedan being smaller.
The interior of the Volkswagen Lamando L is digitized
The new Volkswagen Lamando L is a four-door coupe sedan without framed windows. It measures 4,784 mm in length, 186 mm less than the current generation. Hence the “L” in the name of the new model. Compared to Arteon, the Lamando L is 78 mm shorter.
Aesthetically, the sedan has a front end similar to the one on the “electric” ID.4. The redesigned headlights are now connected by an LED strip that lights up just like the models in the ID range a. In the center sits the Volkswagen logo, which is also illuminated.
The large grille is framed by two vertical air intakes. At the back, the taillights received a new signature, in the style of those on ID.4. The outer package is completed by a set of 18-inch wheels, which are offered as an option.
ID inspiration continues inside as well. Here we find a full digital 10-inch instrument panel and a touch screen for the 12-inch infotainment system. Under the multimedia unit there is also a Golf-type touch control panel and vents with controls for the air conditioning system.
Also, the controls positioned on the central tunnel resemble those on the Golf, with a mini-selector in the center as a gearbox.
Under the hood of the Lamando L is the old 1.4 TSI turbo engine with 150 hp, an extra 20 “horsepower” compared to the previous generation. Power is only transmitted to the front axle via a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
There are no all-wheel drive versions on offer. Under these conditions, the Lamando L can sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds.
Sales are set to begin in the coming months, but prices have not yet been announced. What is certain is that Lamando L will be cheaper than Arteon, which in China costs 249,900 yuan, the equivalent of about 34,500 euros.
