“We have to keep our eyes on China and be very clear that our goal is to have a good and positive relationship with China,” said European Council President Donald Tusk.
“I am convinced that we need to work together to maintain the China-EU relationship and keep the global economic moving forward,” said the French president, Emmanuel Macron.
“We need to be very clear: The China-EU relationship is going to be very strong,” said Sebastian Kurz, the Austrian chancellor.
Despite these assurances, there are still some concerns shared by leaders of the 28-nation bloc about potential complications in the relationship.
“The future of the China-EU relationship will be decided by China and the Chinese people,” said Tusk.
“We have to take into account the new developments and the latest round of negotiations in China,” he added.
“We should be very careful not to over-react to what China is doing,” said Macron.
