According to the leaks, this new WhatsApp feature allows users to find various businesses directly from WhatsApp application.
This trial was conducted for WhatsApp users in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This new feature allows users to find stores or services through the directory in the application.
This is a feature that Facebook seeks to improve e-commerce on its services.
“This can be the user’s main step to start the buying and selling process on WhatsApp,” said Matt Idema as Facebook’s Vice President of Business Messaging, quoted from NDTV, Sunday (19/9/2021).
Later, the trial of this new WhatsApp feature will cover thousands of businesses in categories such as food, retail, or local services in the city of Sao Paulo.
Idema said India and Indonesia would be the next targets for the launch of the new feature.
With this feature, WhatsApp will increasingly attract business people. It is hoped that they can earn more from the in-app business.
Unlike Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp is an application that does not provide advertisement.
For this reason, users who run businesses promote their WhatsApp numbers on products, websites, or through advertisements on Facebook to connect with consumers.
However, Idema did not rule out the possibility that WhatsApp could offer in-app advertising services in the future.
