At the COP26 Conference in 2021, Vietnam was one of the countries that announced a net zero emissions target by 2050. Compared to the Nationally Determined Contribution Report 2020 (NDC 2020), the updated NDC 2022 (NDC2022) has increased the unconditional emission reduction contribution to 2030 from 9% to 15.8%; and conditional contributions from 27% to 43.5% (compared to the BAU business-as-usual development scenario);
Implementing regulations on responding to climate change in the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and committed goals towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Government has issued Decrees and decisions on emission mitigation. greenhouse gas emissions and ozone layer protection, such as Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP; Decision No. 01/2022/QD-TTg promulgating the list of fields and establishments emitting greenhouse gases that must conduct greenhouse gas inventories; Circular No. 01/2022/TT-BTNMT details the implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection in response to climate change.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Kim Anh – Permanent Vice Chairman of the Scientific Council – Center for Quality Certification and Enterprise Development said,According to regulations, businesses will have to provide operational data and information for greenhouse gas inventory before March 31, 2023.
By 2024, grassroots units will have to inventory greenhouse gases; Organize and conduct periodic greenhouse gas inventories every two years and send them to the Provincial People’s Committee before March 31 from 2025.

Through the workshop, businesses will understand more about the importance of implementing climate change response activities, and be guided on methods and how to develop greenhouse gas inventory reports; Simplify implementation methods and shorten the time to calculate greenhouse gas emissions at the facility to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020. Especially for businesses under Decision No. 01/2022 /QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on Promulgation of a list of fields and establishments emitting greenhouse gases that must conduct greenhouse gas inventories.

“Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an irreversible trend, especially if Vietnamese businesses want to compete in the global market,” Mr. Kim Anh emphasized.
