On January 13, Doctor Bui Hoang Thao, Deputy Head of the Department of Urology – Andrology Unit, Saint Paul General Hospital (Hanoi) said that 2 days ago the hospital received a case of a 17-year-old male student. , in Hanoi, hospitalized with fear, confusion, pain in the lower abdomen, and bloody urine.

This male student said that 2 days before he was admitted to the hospital, he watched a video performing a challenge insert foreign object into the urethra on social media and follow suit.

“The patient said on social networks there were many different challenges. Because he wanted to explore his own limits, he chose and implemented the use of an electric wire with a copper core, knotted and inserted. urethra. A day later, this male student felt bladder pain and bloody urine. Worried, the patient confessed to his father and was taken to the hospital,” Dr. Thao shared.

The computed tomography image showed a relatively long foreign object in the patient’s bladder. Because the foreign object had entered the bladder, the patient did not have urinary retention, but it caused scratches to the bladder and urethra, leading to hematuria.

Immediately after that, this male student was taken to the laparoscopic surgery room to remove the foreign object. During the surgery, doctors discovered that the foreign object was a black electrical wire stuck inside the bladder.

This piece of electrical wire was knotted, so doctors had to remove the knot first before being able to remove the foreign object from the body. After about 20 minutes, the foreign object was removed, a piece of electrical wire up to 26 cm long.

Many male students hospitalized after “ordeal”

According to Dr. Thao, the patient is very lucky because although the wire is very hard and long, the damage is only at the level of scratches and bleeding and has not caused cuts, tears in the urethra or more serious complications.

“The challenge of inserting a foreign object into the urethra can cause urethral abrasions leading to bleeding. Besides, a dirty electric wire will cause infection in the urethra, more severe infections of the bladder, kidney pelvis, and even life-threatening sepsis,” Dr. Thao warned.

Doctors also said that recently toxic and dangerous challenges like the above are being spread on social networks. Many young people have followed suit, leading to unfortunate consequences.

A few days earlier, Saint Paul General Hospital admitted a 16-year-old male student to the emergency room for inserting a piece of soft plastic tube with a hole into his urethra. In addition, the doctor each time received a number of cases of inserting chopsticks into the urethra after watching challenges online.
