Recently, every day going to work, Ms. Vu Van Anh (Hoang Mai, Hanoi) stops by the roadside to buy a cup of salted coffee.

Coffee helps stay awake, adds the fatty taste of milk cream, and rich salt flavor to prevent boredom, making it easy to drink. Not only Ms. Van Anh, salted coffee has become a favorite drink of many people.

According to Dr. Tran Hoa – Vice Chairman of the Department of Cardiology and Interventions, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, coffee is a popular drink worldwide.

Coffee has many health benefits because it contains antioxidants, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular death. Drinking 1 to 3 glasses a day helps your heart become stronger.

Coffee contains caffeine so it can be slightly addictive, making you dependent. Some people experience rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, restlessness, and dizziness when drinking coffee.

Doctor Hoa said he himself drank salted coffee. Vendors replace sweeteners like sugar with salt.

However, normal people should not eat more than 5g of salt/day, equivalent to 1 small spoon. If the barista puts that amount of salt in a cup of coffee, it will have enough salt content for the whole day. Meanwhile, you also eat many other dishes containing salt.

Eating a lot of salt causes high blood pressure in young people. Therefore, medical experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend that whether young or old, you still need to prioritize reducing salt every day.

Dr. Hoa emphasized that two special people who should not drink salted coffee are people with high blood pressure and heart failure. People with the above problems should only consume about 2-3g of salt per day.

The amount of salt in food is more than prescribed. If you drink an extra cup of salted coffee, it can increase water retention, making the body’s organs work more, including the cardiovascular system.

Sharing the same opinion, Dr. Tran Chi Cuong – Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Neurointervention Association said that drinkers do not know the exact amount of salt in coffee.

Furthermore, the bartender also added condensed milk so the drinker does not feel salty. But in the long term, putting too much salt into the body is not good, especially for the heart.

People who are being treated for diabetes and high blood pressure should be extremely careful when using salted coffee because it makes treatment more difficult.

When using salted coffee regularly, you should pay attention to your health, you can check your blood pressure and blood sugar.

These two diseases are quite common but have no symptoms so many people are subjective. If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, you accidentally put more salt into your body, increasing the burden of the disease.
