Tesla won a separate order for a hundred thousand cars worth billions of dollars

Hertz Global Holdings has ordered 100,000 Tesla cars. It is the largest single order for the American carmaker so far, its value is about 4.2 billion dollars (93.1 billion crowns), the Bloomberg agency reported.

The order is the first step in an ambitious plan to electrify the fleet of Hertz rental cars, which asked for protection from creditors last May due to a pandemic in the USA. In May this year, it announced that a group of investors, including Knighthead Capital Management, Certares Opportunities and Apollo Capital Management, will finance its bankruptcy.

The cars should be delivered in the next 14 months. Model 3 sedans will be available at rental locations in major US cities and parts of Europe from early November. Customers will have access to Tesla’s network of fast charging stations, and Hertz will build its own charging infrastructure, Bloomberg sources said.

The electrification plan should eventually cover almost all of the more than half a million Hertz rental cars and trucks worldwide. It is the company’s first major activity since June, when it left the bankruptcy protection regime. It also signals that the new owners intend to shake up an industry dominated by a handful of big players. They usually approach change very slowly.
