Who operates BYOViral

BYOViral is an independent web analytics and traffic verification platform operated by the BYOViral team. We provide lightweight website telemetry and public audience verification for creators, publishers, and businesses who want clear analytics without the surveillance and performance costs of traditional tracking software.

What BYOViral does

BYOViral provides real-time website visitor counting and audience analytics through a tracking script of about 650 bytes. When installed on a website, the script records pageviews, active readers, referring domains, entry URLs, and geographic distributions in real time.

Unlike conventional tools that lock analytics behind private dashboards, BYOViral allows publishers to opt into public traffic verification. Verified sites receive an embeddable Traffic Proof Badge and an indexable profile page at /site/yourdomain.com, allowing bloggers and media publishers to demonstrate verified readership to sponsors and commercial partners.

How data is collected and sanitized (bot filtering)

Here is how BYOViral collects data and keeps it clean:

• Zero client-side cookies or storage: The BYOViral tracking snippet sets no cookies, local storage entries, or persistent client identifiers in visitor browsers. Browsing sessions are grouped server-side using a salted hash with a 30-minute idle threshold.
• Automated bot and scraper isolation: Incoming requests are checked against Autonomous System Number (ASN) registries via DB-IP and MaxMind GeoLite2 databases. Visits from cloud datacenters (such as AWS, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, and OVH) and known automation user agents are identified as automated scrapers.
• Clean reporting separation: Identified bot hits are isolated into a separate inspection log and are strictly excluded from all public metrics, top pages, referrers, and daily aggregate counts.
• Rolling log data minimization: Raw IP addresses are recorded temporarily in a private rolling log (up to 500 visits on Free, 10,000 on Premium, 100,000 on Ultra) solely to allow site owners to audit security and scraping activity. Once the rolling buffer cycles, detail records are permanently deleted, leaving only anonymized daily totals.

Methodology of our public network data

BYOViral publishes global web trends and research reports through our Global Stats and Intelligence Center. To maintain transparency, we observe strict reporting principles:

• Aggregated network rollups: All global trends — including browser shares, operating systems, and device distributions — are computed from daily aggregates across opted-in public properties on the BYOViral network.
• Excluded automation: All scraper traffic, crawler hits, and datacenter pings are filtered out prior to computing rollup distributions.
• Sample composition notice: Our network metrics reflect participating websites on the BYOViral network and do not claim to represent a random probability sample of the global internet. Figures provide genuine empirical observations across active digital publications.
