Two tools built around live visitors

Clicky comes from Roxr Software, founded in 2006, and its real-time view, called Spy, is what most of its users know it for. You watch visitors land, see where they came from and follow the pages they open.

BYOViral's live view works in a similar spirit. Every plan shows the visitors on your site right now with their source, page, approximate location and network, and the visitor log keeps the most recent 500, 10,000 or 100,000 visitors per site depending on the plan. Older days are still there as daily totals, which BYOViral keeps without a time limit.

Plans and daily caps

Clicky's plans are limited by pageviews per day and by number of sites. BYOViral's plans are limited by the size of the visitor log; the number of sites and the amount of traffic are not capped.

Clicky keeps history on paid plans indefinitely, but guarantees individual visitor and action logs for six months. Its trial runs for 21 days and covers three sites and up to one million pageviews a day. Clicky shows prices in your local currency.

BYOViral costs $0, $5 or $9 a month ($50 or $90 a year for the paid plans). A site with 50,000 pageviews on a busy day would need Clicky Pro Platinum; on BYOViral, traffic volume does not change the plan you need.

Privacy defaults are closer than many comparisons claim

Some comparison pages describe Clicky as cookie-based. Clicky's own privacy pages say the opposite: its default setting is no tracking cookies, and IP addresses are anonymized by dropping the last block of an IPv4 address. Cookies and full IP addresses are only used if a site owner changes those defaults.

BYOViral never sets cookies and uses no browser storage. It does keep full IP addresses in the visitor log, alongside the network (ISP and ASN), approximate location, browser, device and referrer, because that is what lets you inspect recent visits and separate people from automated traffic. Those rows are deleted as they roll out of your plan's log size. Daily totals hold no IP addresses.

So on defaults, Clicky stores less about each visitor than BYOViral does. Neither tool alone settles whether your site needs a consent banner; that depends on everything your pages load and where your visitors are.

If you decide to switch

BYOViral cannot import Clicky history. Paid Clicky plans keep history indefinitely, so keep the account if you will need past reports. The easiest way to compare is to add BYOViral's script next to Clicky's for a week and look at both live views side by side.

Expect different totals. Clicky applies its own visitor and bot rules, while BYOViral counts unique visitors per day and moves traffic from hosting networks into a separate bot log, so the same visit can be counted differently.
