Is there a free plan on both?
Yes, with different limits. Simple Analytics' free plan covers one user and up to five websites, keeps one month of history, allows unlimited pageviews under fair use, and requires you to show its badge.
BYOViral's Free plan has no limit on the number of sites, keeps the last 500 visitors per site in its visitor log, and keeps daily totals for visitors, pages, sources, countries and devices with no time limit. A badge is only part of the deal if you choose to list a site publicly; private sites need nothing on the page except the tracking script.
What does each cost at 100,000 pageviews a month?
On Simple Analytics, the self-serve plan is simply called "Simple". It costs $20 a month at 100,000 pageviews, includes one user and ten websites, and keeps 1,096 days of data. Extra users cost $20 a month each, yearly billing gives two months free, and you can pay in euros, dollars or pounds. There is a 14-day trial with no credit card. Larger organizations can ask for custom Enterprise pricing.
| Monthly pageviews | Simple Analytics | BYOViral |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 20,000 | $15 | $0, $5 or $9 |
| 100,000 | $20 | $0, $5 or $9 |
| 500,000 | $40 | $0, $5 or $9 |
| 1 million | $60 | $0, $5 or $9 |
| 10 million | $160 | $0, $5 or $9 |
BYOViral's price does not move with traffic. Free, Premium and Ultra cost $0, $5 and $9 a month. What you buy is a longer visitor log (500, 10,000 or 100,000 visitors per site) and extra features such as CSV export and alerts on Premium, or labels, a daily briefing and API access on Ultra.
Who keeps IP addresses?
Simple Analytics says it drops the IP address from every request: it is never saved and never hashed, and its server logs replace it with zeros. It works out a visitor's country from the browser's time zone rather than the IP, and sets no cookies.
BYOViral sets no cookies and uses no browser storage, but it does keep IP addresses. Each site's visitor log stores the IP, network, approximate location, browser, device, referrer and page of recent visitors, which is what powers the live visitor list and bot detection. The log is capped by plan, and its oldest rows are deleted as new visitors arrive. Daily totals hold no IP addresses.
If storing no IP address at all is a requirement, Simple Analytics meets it and BYOViral does not. In either case, the absence of cookies does not by itself decide whether your site needs a consent banner; the rest of what your pages load counts too.
Where is the data hosted?
Simple Analytics is registered in the Netherlands and states that website data never leaves the Netherlands. That is a strong fit for organizations that need EU-only processing written into their vendor list.
BYOViral does not offer an EU-only hosting commitment. If data residency is a hard requirement for you, weigh that before anything else on this page.
Can I ask questions about my traffic in plain English?
Simple Analytics has an AI chat that answers questions about your data in plain language. BYOViral does not have a chat. Its Ultra plan builds a daily briefing that appears on your dashboard, and Premium sends alerts when traffic spikes, drops, or a tracker goes silent.
